The big topic the last few weeks has been safety. Kyle Busch at Daytona, Fernando Alonso at Circuit de Catalunya, and Jeff Gordon at Atlanta have all lead to the important discussion going on now right now centered on keeping our drivers safe.
This week we talk safety with special guest David Heinemeier Hansson, driver of the Tequila Patron Extreme Speed Motorsports HPD LMP2 Coupe in the 2015 World Endurance Championship as well as the North American Endurance Championship presented by Tequila Patron. David tells us about his petition to improve the safety in the pit lane of IMSA races – and the sanctioning body’s reaction. It’s currently hosted on change.org; check it out here. Conspiracies are discussed as David tells us about his experience in writing the petition, getting it signed, and ultimately submitting it to IMSA. As it turns out, IMSA did in fact take a step in the right direction regarding pit lane safety. The day after our interview with David, SportsCar365 broke an article revealing that IMSA will take action for cars left in gear when changing tires.
We’d like to send many thanks to David as he set aside a good amount of time to talk to us. Safety is a topic that we don’t believe is a one-episode issue. We will certainly be discussing it in the future and revisiting it from time to time.
Many of the racing fans that listen to our show may not realize that David also has his hands in a couple of other projects such as Ruby on Rails and Basecamp. Basecamp is a web-based project management tool that aims to help organize the clutter and chaos that often times is associated with large project. Make sure to check it out and spread the word if you know anyone that could use a hand in organizing a large project. Check out Basecamp here! Make sure to check out David’s homepage as well.
Let’s not forget the beer! This week we’re drinking:
