Episode 31: Motorsport Safety Foundation’s Scot Elkins

This week on the show we continue the talk of motorsports safety with none other than Scot Elkins. After serving IMSA as their Managing Director of Technical Regulations, Scot took a position as Race Director in the Mazda Road to Indy series’ USF2000 and Pro Mazda. He’s also joined the Motorsports Safety Foundation as their Chief Operating Officer.

We talk to Scot about the recent safety issues in motorsport. He introduces the Motorsport Safety Foundation, their mission, and founding. We also get to talk to Scot about some of the very cool projects the foundation has been up to lately. Be sure to keep an eye on the Motorsport Safety Foundation. We’re willing to bet many good things are going to be coming out of their camp. This interview was recorded a few weeks back and has only now been able to be published. We take safety very seriously at the Slipstream Podcast and wanted to post this as soon as we recorded it, but due to some unforseen life happenings, had to wait until now.

Of course we start out with a little bit of news and commentary on last week’s only race, the Formula E Long Beach ePrix. We also got something wrong last week. Francesco Dracone was not black flagged as Aaron speculated. After some mechanical issues with the car, the Dale Coyne Racing team decided to end their race early to preserve their equipment. We apologize for insinuating anything more than the truth. RaceCast Weather hooks us up with the next round of weather for IndyCar at NOLA and Trans Am at Homestead.

We also announce the winner of our #SlipstreamRacerGiveaway. The winner is…. Well, you’ll have to listen to find out. We’ll contact our winner via twitter tomorrow.

Check out the Motorsports Safety Foundation and some of the cool projects they’re currently up to:
