The clouds hanging over the Circuit of the Americas proved a relatively cooler temperature for the Tudor United SportsCar Championship warmup session. As the last chance to have track time before the race, it’s crucial for teams to already have their setup picked; anyone who still has improvement to see is already behind. With the sun hidden, a grippier track played host to faster times for this session of the Lone Star Le Mans.
The No. 01 Chip Ganassi Racing’s Joey Hand put in the top time before the race with a time of 1:57.862, still not the fastest time of the weekend. Ozz Negri Jr. followed the Ford EcoBoost DP with a time of 1:58.314 in his No. 60 Ligier.
Renger van der Zande topped the LMPC times with a 2:01.088 in his No. 8 Starworks machine, with the Nos. 54 and 11 following him in class. Nick Tandy was the fastest GTLM with a time of 2:04.674 in his No. 911 Porsche 911 RSR. The fast time of the day in GTD was set by Christopher Hasse in his No. 48 Paul Miller Racing Audi R8 LMS. He topped the GTD charts with a time of 2:09.655.
With RaceCast Weather reporting that we’ll see temperatures of 95°F and mostly sunny skies, we expect times to fall as the heat steals grip from the track. The penultimate round of the Tudor United SportsCar Championship can we watched today on Fox Sports 1, green flag is scheduled for 12:35 PM Eastern.
