Former Mazda Road to Indy driver, Michael Johnson, announced today that he will be racing with JDC Miller Motorsport in the ST class of IMSA’s Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge. The young driver has driven in the USF2000 and ProMazda rungs of the MRTI INDYCAR ladder.
A motorcycle incident when he was younger left Johnson paralyzed from the hips down. He has utilized innovative hand controls in the open wheel race cars he’s driven in the past. The system in the yet-to-be announced ST car is provided by GuidoSimplex, featuring a ring on the front of the steering wheel for throttle and another ring on the back of the wheel for braking.
The plan features a 10-race schedule for the 2016 CTSC season plus the Roar Before the 24, the annual official test session hosted by IMSA. The Slipstream Network was able to catch up with Michael to talk about next year.
