The 25 Hours of Thunderhill presented by Hawk Performance is the longest major sports car endurance in North America. Offering a pleasant respite from the wasteland of the off-season, the 13th running of this great race offers plenty to be excited about.
Sixty-seven entries among seven different classes, including the newly revealed Elan Motorsports NP01 NASA prototype, will take to the hilly three-mile, 15 turn road course for a total of 25 hours. The National Auto Sport Association, NASA, has sanctioned the low-key, cult classic event since 2002.
This year’s event will boast a variety of machinery across those seven classes including Porsche GT3 Cup, Lotus Exige, Wolf, BMW M3, Nissan 370Z, Audi R8 LMS, Mazda Miata MX-5 and RX-8, Radical, Acura ILX, Factory Five Racing, Ginetta LMP3, NPO1 Prototype, and more! The variety of talent rivals the cars we’ll see with names like Al Unser Jr, Ryan Eversley, Darren Law, Dion von Moltke, Kurt Busch, Mike Skeen, Randy Pobst, and Burt Frisselle. Full driver and team entry lists are linked below.
There’s plenty of on track action planned for the weekend with qualifying taking place tonight and the race starting tomorrow. Below is a rundown of the schedule.
RaceCast Weather have released the forecast for the weekend at RaceCastWeather.com. I looks like a variety of changing weather conditions will provide an exciting race weekend with Saturday being mostly sunny, but Sunday allowing a change of rain near the end of the race.
There’s no large-scale TV crew there, but plenty of teams will be supplying fans with streams from in car. There will also be live commentary and video provided by Endurance-Radio. With a long time for practice today, there’s already a few video stream available, embedded below. We’ll post later today with streaming information for the race.
