Scott Atherton on the Future of IMSA

SportsCar America OnTrack returns as Dusty Michael sits down with IMSA President and COO, Scott Atherton, to discuss the recent announcements revealed at Road America. Along with the 2017 schedule, the series announced a variety of changes on the horizon for the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge. Atherton explains the logic behind the decisions and shares his thoughts on how they will shape the future of the sports car racing in North America.

With 2017 talks already in motion, Atherton also discusses the relationship between IMSA, the ACO and FIA. It has already been announced that DPi-spec race cars will not be eligible to race in the LMP2 class next year at Le Mans, but is there still a chance for DPi teams to race in the twice-round-the-clock classic? Find out this and more in this episode of SportsCar America OnTrack.

As a mechanical engineer, Dusty’s passion is for sports cars and endurance racing. In his opinion, there’s nothing better than a race car closely based on a model that you can go out and buy from the manufacturer showroom. He’s very particular about his writing utensils and appreciates a great, cruelty free pomade.
