Feast your eyes on the new Acura ARX-05. Leaked on social media the night before the official reveal, the above image shows the new top-tier prototype clad in traditional Acura orange and white. The car wears the traditional ’86,’ following suit with Michael Shank Racing’s Acura NSX team celebrating the brand’s birth 31 years ago.
Announced along with a two-car Team Penske program, the fifth generation prototype racer is powered by a production-based Acura AR35TT twin turbo V6. The 3.5L power plant is nestled behind the cockpit of the Oreca 07 LMP2 chassis used as a platform for the manufacturer-specific DPi formula.
Aerodynamics taking precedence, the front wing stays at the nose of the car, after being revealed last week. It features through-flow aerodynamic work between the headlights, not dissimilar to Nissan’s NISMO DPi design fielded by Tequila Patron ESM.
Juan Montoya and Dane Cameron were announced earlier as full-season driver pairing for one car, while Penske’s second Acura has yet to have it lineup revealed. The program is expected to start testing by the end of August with the competition debut set for the Rolex 24 at Daytona January 27. More details about the Acura ARX-05 are expected to follow Friday.
